BULLA GASTROBAR OPENS SEPT. 25
New Midtown Hotspot Serves Authentic Spanish Cuisine in a Fun, Communal Setting

ATLANTA (Sept. 25, 2017) – Bulla Gastrobar’s first Atlanta location, in the 12th & Midtown mixed-use development along Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta, opens for business on Monday, Sept. 25. Known for its fun, communal atmosphere, imaginative cocktail program and contemporary takes on traditional Spanish tapas, Bulla (pronounced “boo-ya”) is owned by Centurion Restaurant Group and has three successful South Florida locations.

“We’re very excited to bring Bulla to Atlanta,” says Centurion Restaurant Group founder and president Carlos Centurion. “This is a world-class city for food lovers, with some of the finest restaurants anywhere. We believe our emphasis on authentic, shareable Spanish cuisine in a communal setting will make Bulla a perfect addition to Atlanta’s culinary landscape.”

Bulla takes its name for the Spanish slang term for “chatter,” which neatly encapsulates the restaurant’s atmosphere. Like the famous gastrobars of Spain that inspire it, Bulla balances a fun, easygoing environment with creative cuisine that applies contemporary innovations to traditional Spanish tapas.

The menu boasts both small plates and larger signature entrées that feed two comfortably.

Highlights include paella (Valencia-style rice, seafood, red sofrito and saffron), braised short ribs (with tetilla cheese, potato foam, cipollini onions and red wine sauce) and salmón (with baby spinach, chickpeas and lemon cream). In addition to a monthly Market Menu that showcases a rotating selection of five to six unique dishes, desserts and a cocktail of the month, Bulla also offers guests a three-course tasting weekend brunch menu featuring $3 mimosas on Saturday and Sunday.

An imaginative drink menu will launch shortly after the opening and include handcrafted cocktails with syrups made from scratch, top-shelf beer and wine selections and three made-to-order sangrias - traditional, sangría blanca, and sangría de cerveza. It’s all served in an animated, expansive space with an urban loft vibe inspired by the tapas bars of Barcelona and a traditional Spanish marketplace. A large gather-around bar sits center stage, establishing a community atmosphere, and a second-floor event space beckons for parties and company dinners.

In the heart of Midtown right next to the Federal Reserve Building, Bulla is a convenient destination for exceptional cuisine. Within easy walking distance of MARTA’s Midtown station, many office buildings and popular retail and entertainment options, it’s a perfect spot for after-work drinks or a relaxing dinner with friends and loved ones.

Bulla Gastrobar is located at 60 11th Street NE in Midtown Atlanta and serves dinner daily, with brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Plentiful validated parking is available at 12th and Midtown. For more information, call 404-900-6926 or visit bullagastrobar.com.

MILTON’S CUISINE & COCKTAILS INTRODUCES NEW BRUNCH MENU
Beloved Favorites and Creative New Dishes Highlight Revamped Roster of Appetizing Options

ATLANTA (Sept. 21, 2017) – For many of us, Sunday brunch is the most anticipated meal of the week. It’s a chance to unwind and gear up for the week ahead with comfort food favorites and exciting new finds. Now, Milton’s Cuisine & Cocktails is kicking up that anticipation a few notches with a bold new brunch menu that boasts an inviting mixture of breakfast staples and inventive, chef-crafted newcomers. Each dish spotlights fresh ingredients straight from Milton’s Acre, the restaurant’s expansive on-site garden.

“Our guests love coming to Milton’s for brunch, and we want to give them new reasons to keep coming back,” says executive chef Derek Dollar. “Brunch is all about comfort food, so it presents an opportunity to create fun twists on nostalgic favorites like tater tots and waffles. We’re keeping a lot of the popular menu items that our guests know and love while offering them some fresh new touches they can’t get anywhere else.”

Among the standouts on the new brunch menu are tater tot waffles with sunny side eggs, served with andouille redeye gravy and topped with hot sauce and scallions; fried chicken and sweet potato waffles - a sweet and savory twist on classic chicken and waffles - served with cracked mustard maple syrup and bourbon-peach jam; and the farmer omelet, stuffed with red and yellow bell peppers, tomatoes, scallions, cheddar cheese and buckboard bacon, which comes from the shoulder, like pulled pork. “It’s like Canadian bacon but on steroids,” Dollar says.

Other menu highlights include:

  •          The fisherman omelet, packed with crab and shrimp, asparagus, julienned radish, avocado, tomato and hollandaise
  •          Fried green tomatoes with chive-spiked goat cheese and piquillo pepper coulis
  •          Sticky toffee pecan beignets with powdered sugar and toffee sauce
  •          Sweet potato shrimp fritters with red chile syrup and basil oil
  •          Bacon cheddar croissant French toast with jalapeño maple syrup, scrambled farm eggs, applewood bacon and jalapeño bacon or sausage
  •          Avocado toast with sunny side farm eggs, julienned radish, creamy lemon dressing, pickled Fresno chilies and garden greens
  •          Shrimp and grits with red and yellow peppers, smoked bacon, mushrooms, scallions, tomatoes, lemon butter sauce and cheddar stone-ground grits

Thirsty guests should cap it all off with a loaded Bloody Mary, a delicious mimosa or Bellini or such creative concoctions as the Bee’s Knees (gin, lemon, honey and sparkling wine) and Hair of the Hog (bacon-infused bourbon, maple syrup, bitters and jalapeño bacon).

Milton’s Sunday brunch is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are not required but can be made by calling the restaurant at 770-817-0161.

The Traditional Italian Bakery Introduces Second Kiosk in Georgia

JERSEY CITY, NJ –  On Saturday, September 23, 2017, Carlo’s Bakery will celebrate the grand opening of the famous bakery’s second Atlanta-based kiosk at the GGP owned and operated shopping mall,  Cumberland Mall, in Atlanta, Georgia. ATLANTA-BASED BANTAM + BIDDY EXPANDS TO CHATTANOOGA THIS FALL; BRINGS PASTURED POULTRY AND FAMILY-FRIENDLY DINING TO CITY’S INNOVATION DISTRICT
Chef-Driven Rotisserie Chicken Concept from Top Atlanta Toques Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere Named First Restaurant Tenant in New Market City Center Development

ATLANTA (Sept. 15, 2017) – Atlanta-based Bantam + Biddy, the casual, family-friendly eatery featuring regional, all-natural and pastured poultry from chef-restaurateurs Shaun Doty and Lance Gummere, will open its next location in Downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee, at 728 Market Street this fall. The restaurant, whose name refers to two poultry breed sizes, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily and will also offer a full espresso bar along with alcoholic beverages. Bantam + Biddy is the first restaurant planned for the Market City Center property opening in mid-September from developer Boyd Simpson of The Simpson Organization.

“We are thrilled about becoming part of the growth that Downtown Chattanooga is experiencing and supporting the local entrepreneurial culture in the city’s Innovation District,” says Bantam + Biddy co-owner and executive chef Shaun Doty. “Our restaurants are very entrenched in the neighborhoods where they are located, so the true sense of community in Chattanooga really spoke to us. We look forward to providing Southern favorites made with seasonal, local ingredients that guests can feel good about eating.”

Doty’s extensive culinary expertise in Atlanta (The Federal, YEAH! Burger, Shaun’s, MidCity Cuisine, Mumbo Jumbo) is the driving force behind Bantam + Biddy’s affordable menu of local free-range and pastured chicken and Southern diner-inspired dishes. Although his career has spanned the globe, he is most passionate about creating simply prepared contemporary fare. Lunch and dinner selections at Bantam & Biddy include a “meat-and-two” option, as well as chicken-centric entrées, salads and sandwiches. Breakfast brings build-your-own biscuits, fried chicken and cheddar waffles and pastured three-egg omelets and burritos. There is also a convenient carry-out counter for grabbing a high-quality meal on the go, including the popular “Family Meal” (choice of whole rotisserie chicken, meatloaf or 24-ounce herb-roasted pork loin with a family-sized organic green salad, cornbread, choice of dressing, three sides and a half-gallon of freshly brewed tea) that serves three to five people for under $50.

The new Chattanooga restaurant, designed by Tim Nichols, is going to seat 62 guests indoors and an additional 18 in the building’s air-conditioned atrium. Nichols’ decor features classic wood bead board, bright ceramic tile and rich pecan wood for a charming and casual atmosphere within Market City Center’s retail, office and residential community.

“I’m very proud to announce Bantam + Biddy as our first restaurant tenant,” says Simpson. “The chef-driven concept and Shaun’s all-encompassing restaurant industry experience really impressed us, and it’s been a pleasure working with him.”

Recently dubbed one of the nation’s most startup-friendly cities by Fortune.com, Chattanooga was a natural fit for Doty and his team. The restaurant’s location is part of the city’s Innovation District, a vibrant and walkable area containing Chattanooga’s main downtown public spaces and a host of coffee shops and eateries linked by attractive streets, a bike share program and a free downtown electric shuttle. Anchoring this district is the Edney Innovation Center, which serves as a connecting point, support base and catalyst for the local entrepreneurial ecosystem.

“Bantam + Biddy will be a great addition to City Center and to the Innovation District,” says Kim White, president and CEO of River City Company, the economic development engine for Downtown Chattanooga. “Downtown Chattanooga has long enjoyed excellent restaurants and exceptional chefs, and we are excited to add another eatery to that list.”

Bantam + Biddy is located at 728 Market Street in Chattanooga. The restaurant also has three Atlanta-area locations at Ansley Mall, Avalon and Lenox. For more information, visit bantamandbiddy.com. For additional updates, follow the restaurant on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Winner to be Announced in October

ATLANTA (Sept. 1, 2017) - Himitsu, the luxurious Japanese craft cocktail lounge located in the heart of Atlanta’s posh Buckhead neighborhood, is pleased to announce its inclusion as a finalist in the Best Bar category of the inaugural Surface Travel Awards – a tribute to the best and most thoughtfully conceived spaces and products, as well as the architects, designers and other innovators who inspire, empower and connect travelers.

Designed by Tom Dixon, Himitsu is a darkly theatrical speakeasy, inspired by the rich colors and textures of the Todd Murphy painting 'King of Birds.' The 12- by 16-foot painting, named for the R.E.M song. An elegantly lit, beautiful copper bar is the centerpiece of the 1,300-square-foot space, and an installation of Tom Dixon Melt pendants draws inspiration from molten metal and melting lava, casting an ethereal luminosity on the surroundings.

“The 2017 finalists represent a class of their own in the travel space, and illustrate the myriad ways that great design can improve our experiences,” says Nate Storey, Travel Editor of Surface Magazine.

In the first year, Surface received over 500 submissions across 21 categories. An esteemed jury of design and hospitality professionals will select one winner from each category with the exception of the Instagram categories, which will be decided by the public vote.

The jury includes Dana Cowin, media personality and former editor-in-chief, Food & Wine; Elizabeth Diller, architect and founding partner, Diller Scofidio + Renfro; Murray Moss, design entrepreneur and co-founder, Moss Bureau; Roopal Patel, SVP, Fashion Director, Saks Fifth Avenue; Michael Rock, founder, 2x4; Troy Conrad Therrien, Curator, Architecture and Digital Initiatives, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; and Adam Wells, head of design, Virgin Galactic.

Winners will be announced in the second annual October Travel Issue of Surface (on newsstands October 3). Finalists and winners will be celebrated during a private event in New York in early October.
