BABALU TAPAS & TACOS ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE TEAM FOR FIRST ATLANTA LOCATION
New Latin-Inspired Restaurant with a Southern Twist Acquires Experienced Leaders
for June Opening of Midtown Outpost

ATLANTA (June 6, 2017) – Babalu Tapas & Tacos announced today the hiring of general manager Dahlio Cheatam, assistant general manager David Smith and executive chef Jeffrey McGar for the company’s first Atlanta location. The Jackson, Mississippi-founded restaurant company with local offices in Roswell already has six existing locations throughout the Southeast and will open its doors in June at the corner of West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Place in the 33 Peachtree Place development.

“We are thrilled to have Dahlio, David and Jeffrey take on leadership roles at Babalu Atlanta,” said Stan Stout, COO at Eat Here Brands, operator of Babalu Tapas & Tacos. “Their extensive experience in the restaurant industry plus a natural knack for true hospitality and warmth in service is a precise match for Babalu’s one goal, which is to make guests happy.”

General manager Dahlio Cheatam has been in the restaurant industry ever since an injury in college cost him an athletic scholarship and he turned to waiting tables to earn money for school. The day-to-day interaction with customers had him hooked, and he has since gained valuable hospitality experience from Georgia to California.

“There is a lot of behind-the-scenes hustle that goes into service, but receiving verbal confirmation from guests that everything was perfect while they were with us is the best part of my job,” says Cheatam of what he enjoys most about his role at Babalu.

Assistant general manager David Smith has held jobs in accounting, retail, marketing and business operations but always found his way back to a restaurant after missing the personal interaction with guests and being a part of people’s celebrations.

“No two days are the same,” says Smith when asked about his favorite aspect of the job. “I love overcoming new challenges and knowing I learned something about myself and my team.”

Executive chef Jeffery McGar has been working in the restaurant industry since he was 15, and although his career began in management, he soon discovered that he excelled in the kitchen. He has been in Atlanta since 1997, when he began working at Cherokee Town & Country Club, the number one Platinum Country Club in America. McGar believes in keeping his cuisine simple to highlight quality ingredients and then pours his heart into each dish. He is passionate about grilling and smoking meats, particularly pork, but when he’s not in the kitchen, his second love is building and upgrading cars.

Opening its doors this summer, Babalu Atlanta is located at 33 Peachtree Place at the corner of West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Place next to the newly opened Dancing Goats Coffee Bar.
