DRIFT FISH HOUSE & OYSTER BAR NAMED FIRST GEORGIA RESTAURANT PARTNER
OF MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM SEAFOOD WATCH®
East Cobb Restaurant Commits to Serving Only Ocean-Friendly Sustainable Seafood, Helps Shift Market Toward Environmentally Responsible Fisheries and Aquaculture Operations

ATLANTA (Feb. 5, 2018) – Drift Fish House & Oyster Bar, East Cobb’s premier destination for approachable, chef-driven seafood, announces today a formal partnership with the Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch program. As a Seafood Watch Restaurant Partner, Drift owner Doug Turbush and executive chef Tom Hill pledge to serve only seafood rated a Best Choice or Good Alternative and to educate customers, suppliers and employees about sustainability issues. Although Drift has always strived to source from high-quality purveyors and avoid serving overfished species, this partnership symbolizes a new level of commitment to rigorous standards that make a positive impact on our oceans.

“We are proud to be the first restaurant in the state of Georgia to become an official partner of the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch program,” says Turbush. “This partnership means we have undergone a thorough vetting of our seafood species and sources by a globally respected organization. Over the past few months, Chef Tom and I have reworked a number of menu items and about a third of our supply chain to meet the program’s stringent standards and drive positive environmental change now and for future generations.”

Seafood Watch empowers consumers and businesses to make choices for a healthy ocean. Using science-based, peer reviewed methods, Seafood Watch assesses how wild-caught and farmed seafood affect the environment and provides recommendations indicating which items are Best Choices, Good Alternatives, and which ones to Avoid. Drift also encourages guests to use the Seafood Watch App to help them make better decisions when purchasing or ordering seafood from restaurant menus.

“Our guests have really appreciated Tom’s passion for sustainability and seasonality, and we hope this commitment to source environmentally responsible seafood will give them even more confidence when choosing to dine at Drift,” adds Turbush. “Ultimately, we want to make the process of choosing sustainable seafood easier for our guests and assure them they can feel good about any choice they make on our menu.”

By partnering with Seafood Watch, Drift recognizes the growing public concern with how our seafood choices affect the world’s fish populations and the impact of seafood production on ocean health. Seafood Watch science is referenced by more than 1,000 businesses at 150,000 locations worldwide to help inform their purchasing decisions.

Located in The Avenue East Cobb at 4475 Roswell Road in Marietta, Drift serves dinner seven days a week. For more information, call 770-635-7641 or visit driftoysterbar.com.
